Almost 2 weeks into 2022 and many people have declared their New Years Resolution.
What’s yours? Perhaps a new fitness goal, or maybe starting a new career? Whatever it may be, it’s an annual ritual we all use to give ourselves a fresh, new start.
Naturally, we don’t want to be in the camp of folks that fail to achieve their aspirations for 2022, so we’ve put together some suggestions on how to follow through on your resolution:
1. PREPARE FOR THAT CHANGE
As you start thinking about the changes you want to implement, make sure to 1) stay positive, 2) make small, gradual changes, 3) allow a little room for error;
Changing habits we’re used to is not an easy task, so before diving into your New Year’s goals, it is important to take a step back and mentally prepare for that impending change.
2. SET SPECIFIC GOALS THAT MOTIVATE YOU
While it’s nice to have some support from family or friends, if you don’t share the same level of passion, the resolution has a small chance of succeeding. The goal you set should be important to you and only you, and that there is value for you in achieving the goal. It is internal motivation that will provide the reason and willingness to take action!
3. KEEP YOUR RESOLUTIONS TO SMALL, MANAGEABLE AMOUNT
You should make a list of resolutions you can manage within this year – knowing your limitations and personal bandwidth. It’s better to tackle one resolution well than multiple resolutions poorly.
4. WRITE DOWN YOUR GOALS
Let’s be honest, they are easy to forget especially with work and personal life going on. And that’s okay! We are human, and it is normal to be easily distracted. Writing down your resolutions helps you clarify what it is you want to achieve. It forces you to make decisions and can act as a guiding light for what opportunities to pursue.
5. REVIEW YOUR RESOLUTIONS REGULARLY
It may seem weird to think about your resolutions regularly, but it is those small, incremental steps that lead to massive changes over the course of a single year. Schedule a monthly review, either at the end or towards the first week of each month. This will serve as a guide as to where you should allocate tasks and goals to different weeks throughout the month.
